CERTIFICATES

The Facts Behind WellMatt's Natural Promise

Saying a mattress is natural is easy; having it verified by an independent organisation is hard. The certificates below show that third parties, not us, check where our materials come from, how they are processed and what they release into the air of your room. Under each heading you can read exactly what that certificate guarantees.

Organic textiles

GOTS

Global Organic Textile Standard

A certification showing that natural fibres such as cotton and wool come from organic farming and that the product is inspected at every stage, from fibre to sewing. It sets rules not only for the raw material but also for the chemicals used in dyeing, washing and sewing, and for working conditions.

If you see the GOTS label on your mattress cover or filling, you know the fibre was grown without synthetic fertilisers or harmful chemicals. It is the most widely recognised proof of an organic claim for textile products worldwide.

Responsible wool

RWS

Responsible Wool Standard

Certifies that wool comes from farms independently audited for animal welfare and land management. The wool is recorded at every change of hands, from farm to yarn, and remains traceable.

If you want to know where the wool in your duvet, pillow or mattress filling comes from, RWS is your guarantee. The standard prohibits cutting practices on animals and the overgrazing of pastures.

Climate impact

The Climate Label

The Climate Label — Certified

A climate certification showing that the climate impact of a product or company has been calculated and that verified projects are supported to reduce it. The calculation, covering production, energy and transport, is checked by an independent body.

The label means the carbon footprint of the product you buy has been measured and offset. It shows the environmental claim is based on an audited calculation, not an estimate.

Indoor air quality

GREENGUARD Gold

UL GREENGUARD Gold

Certifies that the volatile organic compounds a product releases indoors have been measured in a laboratory and stay below low-emission limits. Gold is the top tier, meeting the stricter limits set for schools and healthcare facilities.

A mattress is the item closest to your face for seven or eight hours a day; this certificate shows that air has been tested. Because Gold limits are set with children and sensitive people in mind, it matters especially for baby and children's products.

No animal content

Vegan

Vegan NSO-NAP7 — Vegetarian Standard

A certification confirming that no animal-derived substances are used in the product's contents or production processes. The inspection covers not only the finished product but also the auxiliary materials and additives used.

If you don't want wool, goose down or animal-based adhesives, this is the label to look for. It means the content declaration rests on independent inspection, not just the manufacturer's word.

Responsible forest sourcing

FSC

Forest Stewardship Council

A forest certification showing that wood and cellulose-based materials come from responsibly managed forests. Forest regeneration, protection of biodiversity and the rights of people working in the area are all within the scope of the audit.

Fibres such as viscose, lyocell and bamboo used in mattress fabrics, as well as the wood in bed frames and bases, fall within this scope. The label tells you the wood comes from a registered and monitored forest.

Recycled content

GRS

Global Recycled Standard

A certification that verifies the share of recycled material in a product and traces the source of that material throughout the supply chain. It also limits the chemicals used in production and sets requirements for working conditions.

If the fabric or filling is said to contain recycled fibre, GRS means that share has actually been verified. It shows the recycling claim is documented, not just printed on a label.

Organic latex

GOLS

Global Organic Latex Standard

Certifies that natural latex comes from certified organic rubber tree plantations and that the vast majority of the product's latex content is organic. The entire production chain, from plantation to mattress, is audited.

For natural latex mattresses, it is the benchmark that lets you tell whether the content is truly natural. It is the most widely recognised organic standard for latex products worldwide.

Certificates are product-specific; not every certificate applies to every model. You can see which certificates a model holds in the product details on its product page.
